US Supreme Court ends suit alleging Cisco helped China pursue Falun Gong

The US Supreme Court ended a lawsuit brought by Falun Gong members who accused Cisco Systems of facilitating religious persecution in China. The suit alleged the California-based company developed technology enabling the Chinese government to surveil movement members. By reversing a lower court's decision, the justices further limited the reach of the Alien Tort Statute of 1789, a federal law used to hold corporations liable for human rights abuses committed abroad, effectively closing the 2011 legal action.
