Atlantic hurricane season opens with Tropical Storm Arthur inundating Gulf coast

Tropical Storm Arthur, the first of the Atlantic hurricane season, is threatening the southern United States with dangerous flash flooding. Formed Wednesday near the Gulf Coast, the storm originated from a disorganized cluster of storms that previously brought rain to eastern Mexico. The National Hurricane Center reports that Arthur will skirt the Gulf Coast, bringing intense rain to states including Texas and Louisiana, as atmospheric conditions remained conducive for this short-lived tropical storm to develop.
