3 lions die at zoo as Japan bakes in "cruelly hot" summer

A deadly heat wave is currently gripping large parts of East Asia, resulting in record-breaking temperatures in South Korea and hindering earthquake recovery efforts in Japan. At the Tama Zoological Park, the extreme heat has severely impacted the lion population. Ten of the sixteen lions exhibited decreased activity and loss of appetite since mid-July. Consequently, three lionesses have died due to the conditions described as a cruelly hot summer across the region.
