To boost housing, cities and states target parking minimums

Since 2019, 14 states and over 100 cities have reduced or eliminated parking minimums to address a housing crisis. These regulatory changes aim to boost housing availability by lowering project costs, which previously rose due to strict parking requirements. By removing these mandates, local governments seek to increase the supply of affordable housing, mitigating the financial burdens that have historically limited development and restricted access to low-cost residential options across various urban and state jurisdictions.
