Trump administration allows inadvertent killing of endangered species

The Trump administration is dismantling key protections for over 1,600 critically imperiled species by reinterpreting the 1973 Endangered Species Act. A memo from Fish and Wildlife Service director Brian Nesvik to field offices changes the definition of what it means to take an endangered species. Consequently, the inadvertent killing of endangered animals during activities such as building a dam or logging a forest will no longer be considered illegal under this new federal interpretation of the ESA.
