Ex-White House teleprompter operator fined $172,000 for Trump speech bets

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has fined former White House teleprompter operator Gabriel Perez $172,000. Federal regulators stated that Perez exploited material, nonpublic information gathered during his employment to place personal wagers on the Kalshi prediction market regarding words used in Donald Trump's speeches. The total penalty includes the forfeiture of $107,539.02 in trading profits plus a civil penalty. Perez left his position following accusations that he used inside knowledge for personal financial benefit.
