UK shipyards to build new amphibious ships in huge deal

Britain and the Netherlands will each operate four 15,000-tonne amphibious vessels, constructed in UK shipyards using a Dutch design following a pact signed in Ankara. Navantia has pitched the Belfast yard, owned by Harland and Wolff, for this project. The company claims the £98.5m recapitalised facility provides a proven, sovereign capability to build the new UK-Dutch fleet, ensuring the production of these vessels is handled within the United Kingdom's domestic industrial capacity.
