UN approves resolution in support of map that shows Africa's true size - Reuters

The UN general assembly voted 164 to 1 to replace the centuries-old Mercator map with the Equal Earth projection. This resolution supports a map that accurately represents the true size of the Global South. Specifically, the new projection corrects the Mercator map's distortion, which previously depicted Africa as similar in size to Greenland. In reality, Africa is 14 times larger than Greenland, a fact now properly reflected in the approved global mapping standard.
