U.S. Air Force to upgrade plane missile defense system

The U.S. Air Force awarded Northrop Grumman a $60,438,241 contract to develop the Optical Detection and Identification Node, known as ODIN, to enhance aircraft missile defense sensors. Simultaneously, the III Marine Expeditionary Force successfully test-fired the Medium-Range Intercept Capability, or MRIC, system on a remote Pacific island. This MRIC system utilizes technology similar to that used in Israeli cities to effectively shoot down cruise missiles during recent military operations.
