Robert Gilman release: Former US Marine held in Russia for more than 4 years on disputed charges has been released

Former US Marine Robert Gilman has been released from a Russian prison after being detained for over four years on disputed charges. The Trump administration announced that the US citizen, who was imprisoned for 1,666 days starting in January 2022, was freed on humanitarian grounds due to health concerns. The State Department confirmed that the release occurred without any prisoner exchanges or concessions from Washington. Gilman is currently traveling back to the United States from Russia.
