Washington Post ordered to rehire Karen Attiah after posts about Charlie Kirk

A private arbitrator has ordered The Washington Post to rehire opinion columnist Karen Attiah. Attiah was terminated in September 2025 following social media posts on Bluesky regarding the assassination of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk. The arbitrator ruled that the newspaper violated its labor agreement by firing Attiah over her reactions to the event. Consequently, the publication must reinstate the columnist after the ruling determined the termination was a breach of the existing employment contract.
