We Built a Feature We Never Shipped — And That Was the Whole Point

While developing KilnForge, the team created a functional byte-level EXIF orientation parser but chose not to ship it after discovering Bun.Image handles this internally. Shipping the feature would have caused double-rotation of tagged photos. Additionally, the team implemented hand-rolled fallbacks for BMP/GIF encoders, arbitrary-angle rotation, and fit: cover resize modes, as these are missing from Bun.Image. They also identified a bug within their reproducible-build proof where three compiles produced three different results.
