Why travelers were offered thousands of dollars not to board their flights

Extreme heat in Las Vegas caused more than 580 flight delays at Harry Reid International Airport. Due to these significant disruptions, airlines began offering passengers financial incentives to voluntarily give up their seats on flights. Some travelers were offered up to $2,500 to avoid boarding. This measure was implemented as a response to the operational challenges created by the severe weather conditions affecting the airport's capacity and scheduling for numerous departing flights.
