Evolutionary biologist Jay Storz established a world record for mammals by capturing an Andean leaf-eared mouse at 6,739 meters on Llullaillaco. Additionally, Storz and Naim Bautista ascended Volcan Nevado Sajama, the highest peak in Bolivia at 6,542 meters. This activity is part of broader extreme elevations surveys for small mammals conducted across 31 different peaks within the Central Andes to document the presence of wildlife at these extreme altitudes.
